When I saw this pole without a flag a sense of abandonment washed over me. This Country is supposed to be the UNITED states of America so therefore decisions should be made only if the government and the people’s minds are united. The government is meant to speak for the people, but they forget that the people have a voice of their own and they said NO.
I chose the word “caged” because when you are caged you are powerless. People were powerless when it came to the decision of closing down schools. It was as if the people were viewing the government’s actions from afar and running towards them in slow motion with their objections not realizing that they were not running at all because they were trapped. Trapped inside the idea that the government would actually listen. People are not meant to be caged away.
We can never forget about those who were affected the most by the closing of the schools. The children who came to these schools spent the majority of their life there and were abruptly yanked out of their second homes. School is where you make your first friend, where you learn your time tables, where you play, it is where you grow up.
No matter what has happened the schools still remain there tall and strong. They will never be forgotten as long as the community stands. They represent the past and remain in the present, but they soon will become a brighter future for all.
